About the Foundation
When Ray Charles sings “You Don’t Know Me” or Ernest Tubb tells you to “Answer the Phone,” they’re sharing Cindy with the world
The Cindy Walker Foundation was established in 2022 to preserve and promote the legacy of hall of fame songwriter Cindy Walker. Artists like Bob Wills, Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, Ethel Waters, Elvis, Frank Sinatra and many more performed songs written by Cindy over the course of her multi-decade career. Through it all, Cindy remained humble and approachable, living in a modest home on several acres in the heart of Mexia, Texas, surrounded by beautiful gardens and in the company of her beloved mother, Oree.
Today, the Cindy Walker Foundation works to preserve her story, shape a new generation of songwriters and restore her home as a museum, songwriters’ residency and a physical remembrance of her amazing life.
The Cindy Walker House
In 2022, the Cindy Walker Foundation was established to purchase and maintain her historic home on Brooks Street in Mexia, TX as a place where music can once again fill its rooms whether with music lessons for area youth, songwriter retreats or Christmas carols being sung during Cindy’s favorite time of the year.
New music as well as a new archive was discovered when the home was purchased in 2022 by the CWF.
Since then, thousands have been raised in both grants and donations to begin the critical repairs needed to save Cindy’s home.
